Job Description
The Sustainable Finance & Central America Impact Advisory Consultant would support Charicomm and its clients in identifying, assessing and selecting high-impact projects in Guatemala and Central America that are suitable for donation, investment, partnership or catalytic finance support.
Your Role and Responsibilities
The consultant would support Charicomm in the following areas:
- Identify and map credible projects and organisations in Guatemala and Central America, including NGOs, social enterprises, foundations, community initiatives and private-sector actors with strong social, environmental or climate-related impact potential.
- Assess potential donation, investment and partnership opportunities through a sustainable finance lens, considering impact potential, governance quality, implementation capacity, financial sustainability, scalability, local legitimacy and risk profile.
- Develop project-screening frameworks to help clients compare opportunities and make informed decisions on where to allocate philanthropic, concessional or investment capital.
- Conduct stakeholder mapping and due diligence on local partners, including their institutional credibility, track record, governance structure, funding needs, implementation risks and alignment with the client’s objectives.
- Prepare client-facing project briefs and recommendations, including opportunity maps and decision materials explaining which projects are most credible, impactful and strategically aligned.
- Support clients in designing donation and investment strategies that go beyond traditional philanthropy, including grants, technical assistance, guarantees, first-loss capital, co-financing, blended finance and other catalytic capital approaches where relevant.
- Act as a cultural and institutional bridge between Swiss and European clients and Central American stakeholders, ensuring that project selection, communication and partnership strategies are adapted to local realities.
- Help clients understand the Guatemalan and Central American context, including social, institutional, cultural, political and implementation dynamics that may affect project success.
- Translate complex sustainable finance topics into clear, accessible materials for decision-making, including climate finance, impact investing, nature-related finance, development cooperation and philanthropy.
- Support client meetings, stakeholder engagement, workshops and project consultations, including preparation, coordination, follow-up and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to unlock broader partnerships and financing, including private-sector participation, public-sector engagement and longer-term sustainable finance solutions.
- Support monitoring, reporting and learning frameworks so clients can track how their resources are used and what social, environmental or development outcomes are achieved.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate combines international experience, sustainable finance knowledge, local cultural fluency and strong advisory capacity.
The profile includes:
- Experience in international organisations or multilateral settings, ideally involving stakeholder coordination, reporting, project management, donor communication and institutional engagement.
- Graduate-level training in sustainable finance, impact investing, climate and nature-related finance, or development finance.
- A strong understanding of Central American, and particularly Guatemalan, realities, including cultural, institutional, social and business contexts.
- The ability to act as a bridge between Switzerland, Geneva’s international ecosystem and Central America.
- A strong network in Guatemala, with the capacity to identify potential partners, institutional entry points and projects with high impact potential.
- The ability to assess projects beyond their mission, considering governance, credibility, implementation capacity, financial needs, sustainability potential and long-term viability.
- Strong analytical, writing and communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear recommendation memos, donor-facing briefs, project profiles and strategic advisory materials.
- The ability to manage multiple workstreams and coordinate stakeholders across different institutional and cultural contexts.
- Fluency in Spanish and English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
- A strong interest in working with purpose-driven organisations, NGOs, foundations, sustainable businesses, philanthropists and impact-oriented initiatives.
Why This Role Matters
This role helps clients move from a general interest in supporting Guatemala to a structured, evidence-based approach to donation, investment and partnership decisions.
Many international donors and organisations want to support meaningful projects but lack the local knowledge, institutional access and sustainable finance perspective needed to identify which opportunities are credible and impactful. The consultant helps bridge this gap by combining local understanding with international standards of analysis, reporting and impact assessment.
The role supports clients in moving beyond fragmented or purely emotional giving towards projects that are locally grounded, financially realistic, well governed and aligned with long-term sustainability outcomes.
